This year, as well as the progressive dinner, We will be running a Kris Kringle. The limit is $10 and all presents will be put into a bag so therefore not as much thought as to go in as it is short notice. Bring all the presents along to the dinner and we'll draw them out there.

Garage Cleanout

Business Meeting

Being the first Wednesday of the month, we have a business meeting this week. In the absence of our illustrious Crew Leader, I will be chairing the meeting (God help you all... :P )
8pm at the hall, in full and correct uniform (if you're still wearing the old shirt, this means the correct pants as well).

Please also bring along some ideas for next year's program. I would like everyone to have at least 1 idea, which the Program Planning Committee (being part of our new constitution) will take away to put the program together.

Sidetracked/karting

hey Everyone

Slight change in plans, the karting is still this wednesday, but now need people to get there between 7 and 7.30. We will be having 3 kart races, for $45, which is quite a good deal.

This is part of the standard weekly wednesday night go kart championship, and if there are sufficient numbers a prize may even be involved.

-please note that tchange in time etc is because we no longer have sufficient numbers to have our own group booking.

Family Camp

The Group Family Camp is on this weekend. For those who haven't been before, its basically just a relaxed weekend away with the families in the Group. Everyone's free to do pretty much what they like over the weekend.
There's a few things we need to sort out for ourselves:

1. Who's going?
2. When do we want to go up (Fri night or Sat morning)?
3. A menu
4. What extra gear do we want to take?

I am planning to use this as one of my Scoutcraft camps, so I'm happy to organise most of it.
Saturday night dinner is catered with the group, but we'll be looking after ourselves for the rest of the weekend. I'm planning to have a pretty standard menu, but if there's anything in particular anyone wants let me know.
I'm also planning on taking the tunnel tent to use as a dining fly, but this will also depend on how many people are coming.
Could everyone please confirm if they are coming on Wednesday night to Ali (I'll be at BRC), or before then to me by SMS. I'll then put the menu and stuff together.
Post in the comments whether you prefer to leave Friday night or Saturday morning (it's a bit over a 2 hour drive to the camp), and any other thoughts you have.

B Grade Movie Night

B Grade Movie Night this week at my house, starting at 7:30. I've sent out SMS's with the address.
BYO drinks and nibbles, and a bean bag if you have one (we have some couches and plenty of floor space).
Rusty has organised a nice selection of movies for us, and we have a fairly extensive collection here as well (courtesy of my housemate Matt, who will also be joining us for the evening).
I'll kick you all out around 11, so we should get a couple of movies in at least.

I want to be a Rover night

This Wednesday is our "I want to be a Rover" night with both 3rds and 5ths Cubs.
I've put the program together, so all you really need to do is turn up on the night in full uniform to help run the activities (I'll have instructions for everyone).
However, if anyone is free on Tuesday night (yes, I know its Cup Day), I could use a few hands to help prepare some of the materials, including making Play Dough. If you're free, I'll be heading down to the hall about 7:30, should only take an hour or so.

Wednesday night, Cubs starts at 7:00pm, so be there at 6:45 to get prepared and ready to go. Full Uniform. We'll also have a quick business meeting after Cubs to cover a few things.

"I Want to be a Rover" - Joint Night with Cubs

Ok, so as discussed at the last business meeting, I've arranged with our two Cub packs (3rds and 5ths) to have a joint night on Wednesday 7th of November to cover the "I Want to be a Rover" program.

Because this is our business meeting night, the plan is to do the Cub night (Cubs runs 7:00 - 8:30), then retire to the den for a quick business meeting.

I'm looking at running a "St. George and the Dragon" themed night, but I'll put it all together, so all I'll need is for people to turn up to help me run it. As I said, Cubs starts at 7pm, so I'll need everyone there at 6:45 to setup. Full uniform.

For those who want some help going through the book work from the Basic course, I'm available next Monday night (29th). I'm told you're possibly doing stuff Sat arvo as well. Let me know if anyone wants to do Monday night and we'll find somewhere to meet.

Games Night this Wednesday

This Wednesday is our Games Night - everyone needs to bring along some kind of game (board game, card game, whatever). 8pm at the hall. Cubs are on holidays, so we can use the whole hall if necessary.

South Metro Showtime Rover Night

So South Metro Showtime's Rover night is coming up, and it would be awesome if we could show some support to the members of the crew involved in the show. (Myself on stage, and Chris and Ali backstage)

When: Friday 31st August. Show starts at 7.30
Where: Show - Alexander Theatre, Monash University Clayton.
Party - Waltzing Matilda Hotel, Cnr Springvale and Heatherton Rds, Springvale South.
Cost: $25 includes show and entry to party. Drinks at bar prices.

This is your one chance of the year to laugh your arse off at the complete fool I make of myself on stage, as well as get plenty of amunution to make fun of me for the rest of the year.
So bring money on Wednesday, and I'll book tickets.

Business Meeting this Wednesday

Due to having Scott's boot last Wednesday in our normal business meeting time, we will be having the meeting this Wednesday. So, 8pm in uniform at the hall.
We'll be finalizing the program for the next few months, and organizing our joint night with the Venturers on August 22nd among other things.

Also, big thanks to those who helped out with transporting gear for the Scout's Fantastic Race on Saturday and Sunday. It was much appreciated by the Scouts and Scout Leaders. Another 5 hours service checked off for those who did both days (we should really keep track of service hours somehow).

Ok, so here's my plan for food for the weekend:

Sat Breakfast: Cereal, toast, bacon, eggs, juice (this will depend on when people head up, it may end up being Macca's on the way up!):

Sat Lunch: Hot Dogs w/ cheese, sauce, etc. (take small stove out to heat frankfurts)

Sat Dinner: Pub meal in Yarra Junction

Sun Breakfast: Cereal, toast, bacon, eggs, juice

Sun Lunch: Sandwiches (we can make these before we go out)


Can people please let me know if there are any issues with that menu? Discuss it tomorrow night at Rovers, and then I will go and buy food Thursday night.

Congratulations everyone, I've just done the sums and counted ALL the money and we made $855.80 profit on our weekend venture, meaning that after buying the stuff from SITRO and paying Teasy for the tyres, we're now $675.80 better off.

Mirage and GED Awards

I've already sent emails out about these, but we've had two requests for help for next week:

1. Mirage Venturers need some help running their activities next Tuesday night (15th May). Starts at 7:30pm at 1st Central Moorabbin Scout Hall in Bignell Rd.

2. Glen Eira Volunteer Awards are on again Thursday night (17th May) and District are looking for some help on the night ushering and handing out supper (same as we did last year). 7:30pm at Glen Eira Town Hall.

For squires (and recently invested Rovers), both of these count as Service for your Rover Skills Badge.
