Ok, so technically I still have Surfmoot, but this is my last camp before I turn 26, and my last camp for my Scoutcraft Badge.
As you've all already been told, it will be in the Toolangi State Forest, about an 1 1/2 hours away on the way to Yea.
Plan is to leave our hall around 2pm on Sunday afternoon (Venturers will also be coming with us as they will be hiking up there as well). Get up there late afternoon Sunday, get set up and settle in before dinner.
While you're there, there will be the opportunity for 4WD-ing, bushwalking, bike riding (if you bring a bike), casual sightseeing (Wilhemina Falls are quite nice and close by), or just kicking back at the campsite and relaxing. I will have copies of maps if people want to go out and explore.
Food cost will be $30 per person, below is the menu:
Sunday Dinner
Chicken Stir Fry w/ noodles.
Monday Breakfast
Bacon, Eggs and Hash browns with toast
Monday Lunch
Pasta w/ Pesto, salad and garlic bread
Monday Dinner
Chicken Parmagiana w/ steamed vegies
Golden Syrup Dumplings
Tuesday Breakfast
Pancakes
Tuesday Lunch
Turkish Bread w/ Dips, cheese and meat
Stuff you will need to bring:
Tent, sleeping bag/mat/swag/lilo/whatever you sleep on/in, clothes, raincoat, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, chair, drinks (FYI, Venturers will be with us on Sunday night),
Stuff the crew needs to pack:
12x12 tunnel tent, kitchen box, 2 x tables, BBQ, stove, gas, washing basin, gadget poles and rope (I will build a washstand, just like we used to at Straddy!), tarp for shelter/shade.
I'm happy to tow a trailer up and back, but I need a trailer.
I need to know by Saturday morning if you are coming, I will be shopping on Saturday. If you can only make it for part of the time, let me know that as well. Also let me know if you can assist with driving Venturers to and from.
Apologies for the delay in getting all this out - I got kinda caught up with Christmas!

Ideas for Christmas party:
Mini golf @ Dingly
Crown Casino - Bowling, gambling, games arcade, movies, dinner etc.
TGI friday
Beach
Luna park
Cocktail party at someone's house
Swimming Pool
Beer appreciation? was there a brewery anyone wanted to visit?
Anyway, thats my ideas, hopefully some are not total crap.
Even if we did an activity first, we could always go back to someone's place later to continue the festivities.

Stuff
Stuff the 1st
VG is coming up on 5-7 December at Gilwell Park. I need to know who will be going so I can plan menus, gear, etc.
Also, as discussed at the Business Meeting, I will be inviting some of my Venturers who have just turned 18 to come along with us (as a bit of a free trial)
Stuff the 2nd
I will be doing an order of badges from Snowgum during the week. If you need any badges, get in touch with me by Tuesday and let me know what you need.
I will also order some "Ettamogah Rover Crew" name tapes.
Stuff the 3rd
I will be running a camp at Toolangi State Forest between Christmas and New Year (at this stage, 28-30 December). This will be my last camp for my BP. I will also have some Venturers up there doing a Venturing Skills hike, but the Rover will just be camping in the one spot. You guys can do whatever you like during the day (4WD, walking, sit around and do shit all...), I will drive around and check on the Venturers periodically. Please let me know if you'll be available for this camp. I'm looking at inviting some of my other Rover friends as well, if anyone has any issues with this let me know.
That's all, any questions, let me know.

Christmas Party Ideas...
Hi,
So here is where to write all the wonderful Christmas party ideas that we have. I suppose we will decide on them next business meeting (which will be the December Meeting) or just before. Feel free to correct that assumption.
So far I think we have had the following ideas...
- Progressive Dinner
- Go Karting
- Paint balling
- Go to a restaurant for dinner
Also, was it decided if the break up will be on a Wednesday or a Friday night, so we can celebrate long in to the night??
So make sure you put all your ideas down. ASAP.
Luv Ali

Why: its Christmas, which means I can gather a lot of people in one place at one time and catch up with them all

District Centenary Challenge this Sunday
Ok, so we have the District Centenary event this weekend which we've been asked to run an activity for at 2nd Caulfield's hall. I've organised the activity, and also I should have some Venturers along to help as well, so all you need to do is turn up on Sunday (in uniform) to assist. The idea is groups of Joeys, Cubs and Scouts will be making their way around the district to do activities and collect "Glen Eira Dollars" (which we will give out upon successful completion of our activity).
Details are:
Where: 2nd Caulfield, 702 Inkerman Rd, Caulfield North (near Hawthorn Rd opposite Caulfield Park)
When: 9am - 2pm
What to bring: yourselves in uniform, hat/jacket/water bottle/whatever else you want
After the activity finishes at 2pm, all members of the District will be converging on Glen Eira Town Hall for a "mini-Fete", which we have also been asked to make an appearance at. There will be a BBQ feed provided, plus other little activities (although they're aimed more at the younger kids, but don't let that stop you having a go!). This finishes at 5pm.
Please let me know if you're able to come and help. If you can only make it for a short period of time, that's better than nothing, just let me know when you can make it. I know a couple of people will have to take the buggy down for scrutineering, but if you can come after that it'd be good.
Any questions, please let me know.

Big Arse Fluoro Party
Hi all,
Not sure who'll check the blog before tomorrow night but BAFP Details
Where: 'Whispers' @ The Dingley International, Boundary Rd Dingley
When: 8pm-1am
Cost: $10 entry and drinks at bar prices, as well as other little fundraisers throughout the night
I know I said I'd be driving there, but as some of you have noticed, I'm not entirely well at the moment, and if I'm attending, it will not be for the whole night, likely no later than 11ish. So if anyone wants a lift there/lift back at those times, shoot me a message tomorrow and I'll let you know if I'm going

Initiative Course
Ok, so I know I said in my SMS today that there would be details on the blog tonight, but as of tonight, the course has been postponed due to lack of Venturers (and also a potential lack of Rovers).
There are plans to run a course in mid October, but I need to run these by the District Venturer Leader first. If it does go ahead, it won't be at Powelltown, but will instead be an urban course. More details to follow.
Also, I will be an apology this week as I will be at the Glen Eira District AGM.
Peace out.

Rovers for the next two weeks
is supposed to be a mini-olympics night, but I'm not going to be there to organise it and it seems like there's going to be a lack of people there. (3 or 4 at my last count)
So I leave the decision of what's going on to those who will be there, and send texts out to you to let you know.
The following week is a business meeting, but with the crew leader, assistant crew leader, activities coordinator, den warden and Ali all apologies, I'm wondering the worth of the meeting. Leave your opinions here as to what you think. If it goes ahead, reports from those absent will need to be submitted beforehand.
Finally, Showtime rover night, which is this Friday. The show is at the Alexander theatre, Monash Uni Clayton campus, the afterparty is at the Mountain View hotel, Corner Springvale and High St Roads, Glen Waverley. Due to the lack of money received compared to tickets wanted, I've had to get a crew cheque written to cover it. Those who have paid are fine, those who haven't will need to pay Noddy for their ticket. For those interested, we have nearly a full crew turn out for the night, so thank you all for supporting the show.

This Monday (the 18th) is our group's AGM, and we've been asked to come along to join in the frivolity and help serve supper. I believe the start time is 7.30, I'll confirm it today and post it back here tonight.
Also Kurll's Own want to play us this week, as they have their AGMs next week. If anyone has any issues with it, let me know by Sunday so I can confirm with them.

Is this Wednesday, so full uniform and reports at the ready.
Also, tonight is the SMRRC AGM, so if you're free, head on down. It's normally the quickest meeting of the year, and from my recollection, they have food.
Finally, next week we'll be playing winter games against Everest Le Page at our hall starting from 8.

Winter Games Rounds 2 & 3
So we have 2 rounds of winter games to play, against Harrison and Tarlow.
Harrison have offered us Tuesday 29th
I've asked if we can play Tarlow on the 30th, it's the only date that might be agreeable for both crews. If you can make either one or both of those dates please comment or message me tomorrow or Friday at the latest so I can confirm with the crews.
In other news, Friday 1st is South Metro Showtime's Trivia Night. I know those involved in the show plan on attending, but it would be good if we could organise a table ourselves. It's $10 per head pre-booked I believe, so I'll be asking for numbers on Friday night. I don't have the exact details on me, but I'll edit them in when I do.

A Team Appreciation Night
Hi all,
This week is supposed to be an A Team Appreciation night. It has been suggested that it be moved to friday as this will allow us to watch more episodes with potential to sleep at the hall if that's what people want to do. We could start early and have pizza or something if you wan to.
Someone will need to bring a DVD player.
I can't be there on Wednesday as I'm working, so I'd prefer it to be moved, but if most people want it on Wednesday, that's ok by me.
Please comment or message me with what you would like to do so we can work out what we are doing.
Cheers,
Noddy

Winter Games: Round 1
Round 1 of winter games starts next week, and we're now playing Bunerong at their hall. They don't want to play next week as it's their business meeting, but the week after is our business meeting, as well as the day before Chris's ramblers. So are people happy playing on July 2nd, or do we need an alternate date?

The Fantastic Race
I have some more details about the fantastic race which is occurring on the 2nd and 3rd of August.
This is from an email I received from Michael Thomas, one of the leaders organising it:
"The pickup points will be the Ormond Hall of 6th Caulfield (think some Rovers are there as well) and the 1st McKinnon Scout hall. Luggage would be available from 10am onwards and it is to be taken to Melbourne High School. Pick up time would be around 9.30am on Sunday morning - Saturday will tell you if you have enough resource in the way of trailers etc to move it in one go. If not I will try and arrange a couple of parents to help out on Sunday morning. The luggage is to be dropped off back at the 1st McKinnon hall.
All Rovers are welcome to stay over on Saturday night if they like and if any want to the scouts are going to the St Kilda versus Port Adelaide match on the Sunday - happy to have you guys along for that as well."
They are expecting about 140 scouts.
Please tell me if you can help out on either the Sat or Sun or both. Michael has said that we should be able to borrow a couple of trailers from scout groups in the district (not sure what size), so even if you can come along with a car (or not) the would be great.

Business Meeting and Programming
As the title suggests, this week is a business meeting as we didn't have one last week, and we will also be programming the rest of the year, so bring along any and all ideas you may have.

Mud Bash transport arrangments
Hey Guys
Just thought that the transport arrangments for the upcoming weekend should be finalised...
I am probably going to need a lift if anyone is going down Saturday morning or sometime then, as I probably won't be able to make it up on the Friday Night, as i have an exam that finishes late....
What is eveyrone else planning?
Cheers
Ben

Bowling Night
Hi all,
Tomorrow night is our bowling night at Moorabbin AMF at 8pm. Unfortunately there's been a lacklustre response from the crews we invited, so it looks like being mostly us with maybe one or two people from elsewhere. Cost shouldn't be more than $20, and I'll see everyone there tomorrow.

Fantastic Race
At the youth forum, I was asked by a leader at 5th/6th Central if we would be able to assist with transporting luggage for the Fantastic Race like we did last year.
The info I have:
-August 2-3
-About 140 Scouts
- 5/6th Central can supply a couple of trailers, and other groups may be able to as well.
If you could let me know if you are available and if you can bring a car to tow or a trailer, I can let them know if we can help them.

I Want to be a Rover Night: 1st Central Edition
This week we're running an "I want to be a rover" night at 1st Central Moorabbin. Their hall is in Centenary Park, Bignell Rd, Bentleigh East, Melway ref 78 B3. What with winter being around the corner we'll be doing a winter games themed night running through a few of the games and having a couple of discussions about the rovering way of life.
Their night starts at 7.00pm, so I'd like us all to be there by 6.45pm to make sure we have everything we need and be organised. Their finish is 8.30pm, so we can do something afterwards if we want.
I would appreciate if people could leave a comment if they'll be coming or not so I can assign various parts of the night (such as running games) to people beforehand.
See you all on Wednesday
Adelaide
PS: If you're coming to Baw Baw, You'd best bring money this week so we can reserve our spots.

Baw Baw money
Hi guys,
Firstly, I will be an apology for this Wednesday, we have a District Venturer night on.
For those who want to come to Baw Baw on the 8-10 August, I need to get money from everyone ASAP. It's $100 for the weekend, this is for accomodation and food. FYI, we'll be sharing the chalet with Lord Casey and Delnigy.
Money can go to either me or Noddy, I will be getting a crew cheque to send into the Baw Baw bookings officer. If you have enough money in your crew account and you speak nicely to Noddy, you may be able to get some or all of the cost covered.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with me.

Powelltown Weekend, 2-4 May
As I have been mentioning for the past month, next weekend is the hike weekend up at Powelltown, with us and the Venturers.
I'm taking the Venturers hiking overnight Saturday and Sunday. Rovers are welcome to tag along, or if you don't fancy hiking, you can just hang around the hut, or whatever else takes your fancy.
I do need to know who's planning on coming, so I can make sure I have enough seats in cars for Venturers.
It'll be a self catering weekend, and if you're hiking, you'll need to bring all your own gear for that as well (rucksack, stove, etc.) This will also be the warm up hike for my Rambler's in July (Great Ocean Walk), so if you want to come on that, it'll be a good idea to come on this hike for some practise.
Anyway, if you are coming, please let me know either by email, comment or SMS, or in person on Thursday night if you're coming to ANZAC Day (I won't be there on Wednesday night).

Dawn Service
The group is once again going into the Dawn Service on Friday, with a sleepover on the Thursday and is wondering if we'd be able to help out on the Thursday and if anyone is interested in going in to the service. If you're interested in going to the service, you need to let me know by tomorrow night, as we need to make sure there'll be space on the bus. Otherwise you can tell me on Wednesday if you want to help on Thursday night.

More on Youtube Video Night
Ok, so here's the rundown on what's happening. Basically, you'll form into small groups (3-4 people) and come up with an idea for a video to film and put on Youtube. Then you go out and shoot it. You bring the file back to me, and I'll put them all up on Youtube. The video that gets the most hits after a week wins.
Things you will need: a camera, ideas, any props/costumes you think you could use.
Remember, I have invited my Venturers to join us as well, so play nicely!

Youtube Video Night
I believe, in amongst all the shuffling of the program, that this week is meant to be our Youtube video night. Seeing as no one else has put anything up here regarding this week, I'm going to suggest we go ahead with this. You'll need to bring a camera capable of shooting video (which most digital cameras will do), and ideas for what you want to shoot.
Also, the activity that was planned for my Venturers for this week has fallen through, so I would like to offer to them to come and join us for the night.
I will speak to a couple of you (CL, etc.) to confirm plans for the week, but I thought I'd put this up here anyway.

AGM Postponed
Due to the success of our last to Wednesday night outings to Eurotrash, we will be going again next week with the AGM to be held on Thursday April 3rd. The time and place are TBC, some people wanted it early (7:30) and Toad has offered to hold it at his place, though it may be more convenient for other to hold it at the hall. ATM, it is set for 8:00 at the hall, if you have any problems with this, let me know.
For Eurotrash, we will be meeting at McKinnon Station at 615 again.

Recently we've been talking about doing more intercrew activities and I've been talking with Jackie from Cumoot RC and we figured our crews could get together to do something. They are located down near Pakenham, so it may be more worthwhile doing a camp rather than a normal night. If you could all think about what you'd like to do that's between our hall and Pakenahm, either a crew night or a camp and get back to me that would be great. I will be around on both Wednesday night and Thursday night, so you can talk to me then or message me. BTW they meet on Friday's so it may not be possible to do it on a Wednesday night.

Cheese's World Tour of NZ
Cat and I will be in New Zealand from the 20th to the 30th of March for NZ Moot.
I have global roaming activated on my phone, so you can contact me, but I get charged through the a*$#hole for every message and call, so please only call or sms if you really, really need to.
Obviously, I won't be at Rovers for these 10 days (it's a bitch of a commute).
I should still be able to check email and the blog periodically, so feel free to email me, and I'll keep an eye on here for what you guys are up to.

Comedy Festival
Hi Guys,
Two things:
1. For those who are coming to spicks and specks, i have booked the tickets. We are on the first floor front row.
2. As only two of the crew are going to Hoadley, there is no point having a prep night next week, so therefore i have organised a comedy night at Eurotrash bar in the city. It costs $10 entry and you will see between 4 and 6 different comedians. (Last week i saw, among others, Danny Bhoy and the scared weird little guys). We need to meet at the hall 6:30 and will drive in from there.
Any questions u can call or message me
See you then
Rusty

Upcoming Stuff
There are a few upcoming things that I need an indication for of who will be attending, or if it is feasible:
Please have a think about these, I will discuss with everyone on Wednesday.
- Mudbash Working Bee (15 March) - I will be attending this on Saturday, I need to know who else can attend with me (I need at least one extra person). This is to cover our outstanding man days from last Mudbash. Would be good to get as many as possible above the 2, seeing as it is overdue (which I will admit is my fault)
- Leadfoot Challenge (12-13 April) - I would like to use this as one of my Scoutcraft camps, I need to know who is going to plan menus, etc. I have also had a request from Mark Rosenberg if he can attend the camp with us and help me organise it as part of his Scoutcraft. Please let me know your thoughts
- Hike Weekend - I would like to run a hike weekend as part of my preparation for my Rambler's as well as bringing some of my Venturers along who need to complete their Venturing Skills Hike. I have a tentative date of 2-4 May at Powelltown, I'd like to know who is interested in coming.

Moonlight Cinema
This Tuesday night is Moonlight Cinema at the Botanic Gardens.
Gates open at 7pm and the movie starts around 8:30. Would be best to meet at the gate at 7:30 I think. Gate is Gate D, on Birdwood Avenue (near the intersection of Domain Road) South Yarra.
I'm told Delnigy will also be attending, not sure what time they're meeting though (I'm sure you'll be able to meet up with them).
BYO Drinks, Nibbles and a picnic rug to lie on (if you bring a chair, you have to sit up the back).
I have Venturers, so I won't be there, but I'm sure you'll still have a good time without me ;)

Hi All,
Just so you don't forget this weeks working be is only a mafeking one, not a mudbash working bee, so it doesn't count for buggy stuff. You are all still welcome to attend if you wish.
More Importantly...
Sunday the 24th of Feb will be Buggy Work.
Start at 10am @ Rob's Place.
Hope to see you all there, so that we can be ready for all the events for this year.

Hi from Canada
Hey guys
just letting you know that i do still in fact exist, but will be missing the next few weeks of rovers as i am overseas in canada at the moment
when i arrived it was snowing, had to make a landing on like a runway covered in ice, and it wa minus 20 degrees... a little bit cold
when i get back, however, we will have to watch "superbad" as a crew, as i saw it on the plane (hadn't seen it before hand somehow), and i think there are some great likenesses to certain people in the rover crew; ill let you all decide who i am talking about, and yes unfortuantely i too have been told i am like some one in it (and no, thankfully it is not McLuvvin!)
see you all soon
Cheers Ben
