Merry Christmas

Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year, and to enjoy the break.
We even have a present from the council. They've given us a garage at Foch St. for us to use, so one of the first things of the new year will be to move everything from Moorleigh to our new shed.
I'd also like to thank you all for the year you've all put into rovering. In what has been an interesting and sometimes trying year, everyone has still put in their best and pulled together to get some amazing things done. Heading into next year, I am confident that we can continue building, and become an even greater crew.

P.S. I'm helping Cheese drop some Venturers at Wilson's Prom on Monday night, so if anyone feels like keeping me company/doing some crew promotion let me know.

Opposite Lock. Now with added road trip.

Hi all,

We've tracked down a trailer that will suit our needs for a decent price. Woo hoo! Jono even offered to go and pick it up from Sydney. Double woo hoo! Jono's car decided to break itself. Bugger.

I'm free from wednesday arvo to road trip up to Sydney to collect the trailer and I may even have a suitable car, but I'd like to recruit a co-pilot or two, also a car that can definitely be used would be great. If we manage to get the trailer before Opposite Lock, we'll have saved the crew about $250 in trailer hire. Woo hoo! Please let me know ASAP if you can help out.

Also, the trailer is going to cost a bunch of money. While we can justify pending the cash for the trailer, we are going to have to do some serious fundraising in order for the crew to be able to keep writing cheques for tickets and things.
**PLEASE THINK OF SOME GOOD FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES AND BRING THEM TO THE BUSINESS MEETING NEXT WEEK** If you're not coming, give your ideas to someone else. No matter how much cash we have, I still don't get a Christmas bonus, so this is all for the crew, because we can't do much with no money.

Noddy

Crew Leader edit: On the buggy front, we have a replacement scrut on Wednesday 4th between 5 and 6pm. The closer to 5 the better, so if anyone knows of a trailer we can borrow for an hour, and if someone is able to tow it, that would be great.

Vic Gathering and District Pack Holiday registration

Howdy everyone,

Vic Gathering is coming up on the first weekend of December (4-6) and the question I put to you all is: Do we want to go and help out? It's a great opportunity to do service and to get out to venturers and lay the groundwork for recruitment. So if people could leave comments saying if they'd like to help, I can ring and organise something. I'll do my best this year if we go to not end up with an activity that involves broken legs.

Secondly, a quick reminder about the District Pack Holiday. Details are in the service, service, service post below, but I'll throw the link for registration here again. (clicky)
I know some of you have registered, but those who haven't and plan to attend please do so our DCSL can get an idea of numbers for catering etc.

See you all on Wednesday for a business meeting

Service, Service, Service

My inbox has been going nuts with activities for the next couple of months so I thought I'd put some down here for everybody to read, in order from closest to furthest.

Clearing of Foch St for garage prep:
The garage planning is in its final stages, and in preparation for this, Graeme Berry is looking at clearing out the area it will be going in.
He wants to do it this Saturday, the 10th, organising a skip and filing it with whatever is there. As the garage is kind of being built for us, it would be nice if we could lend a hand, I/Graeme would need to know by Tomorrow (Tuesday) if you can help, in order to book the skip.

Joint night with Venturers:
We've been asked by DVC to run a night for the venturers next week on either the Tuesday or Wednesday, so ideas for activities to run, as well as an indication of if people can do Tuesday so we get more venturers. We will be discussing this at the business meeting on Wednesday, so bring your ideas along.

District Pack Holiday:
This is on the 13th-15th of November, and for those who aren't aware, we do the catering for the cubs. This year we'll have Everest Le Page joining us, so we can all have some fun. It's at Pax Hill scout camp in Ballarat, and the District Cub Leader has asked that all rovers who are going to attend fill out an online registration form. The link is here, if you have any further questions, feel free to ask me.

Street Beat Festival
Glen Eira council is holding its annual Street Beat Festival on Wednesday November 25th. Branch is sending out Team Max and would like some rovers/leaders to help out. It goes from 9am to 3.30pm and if you could help out at all, it would be great.
Frank has said he'd like to know who can by Wednesday the 17th, which I assume is November, I'll ask him and amend the details here.

I'd also like to know who is interested in helping out at VG again this year, it's the 4th-6th of December. Please let me know so I can get in touch with the organisers.

I'm sure there will be more details to come.

Today, help next week, Rover dinner

Hi guys,

Just a few things over the next week.

Firstly, this week has become meeting week, with two worthwhile meetings on today, The Glen Eira Stonnington district ARP, and the Mudbash forum.

GESD ARP:
Time: 8.00pm
Where: "Caulfield Cup Room" Glen Eira Town Hall, Corner Hawthorn and Glen Eira Rds, Caulfield

Mudbash forum:
Time: 8.00pm? (Not entirely sure, just heard about it from Kelly)
Where: Vic Rover Centre, Highland Avenue, Clayton North
What: Apparently the committee wants feedback from people about this year's mudbash, what they liked, didn't like, ideas for improvement, etc. Those who went to the AGM probably now more than me, so chat to them about it.

I am also looking for an extra hand or two at cubs next week running our end of term activity. We're running a market night, where the cubs will be able to buy items, and use them to make more money. I need a couple of people to help man the 'stalls.' If yo can help, please let me know.

Finally, the Rover Dinner is coming up, and as we have an ex-member (Cheese) receiving the W.F. Waters award, I'd like to have a crew presence there for the event.
When: Saturday October 24, 6.00pm pre-drinks, 6.30pm start
Where: Wheelers Hill International, Jells Rd, Wheelers Hill, Melway Ref: 71 H11
What: Three course dinner punctuated by entertainment, awards and other stuff from the past year
Cost: $46

And as a Final aside, I'm planning on putting in an order for the rover service shoulder knot holders if anyone is interested. Let me know by next Wednesday if you want one, they're $9.00 from the snowgum website.

Wednesday, 2 September 2009

Wednesday 2nd September

Hey everyone!

Due to the high number of absences this week, we will not be having the scheduled business meeting.
Also, next week is the Mudbash Forum. It would be good if people could attend as they want feedback from this years Mudbash. It will be held at the Branch Rover office, Highlands Ave Clayton, from 7.30pm on Wednesday the 9th of September.

Apologies for the lateness of this post!
Kelly :-)

P.s. I need to organise winter games with Kurll's Own so let me know asap when you can. Give me lots of days if possible. Need to play them before the 11th of September.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to say thanks again for Monday night. You all did a great job, especially Evan as MC, and you all made it a special night for me and for the crew.
Also, as I said in my speech, thanks to all who came away on camps, hikes, etc. and helped me gain the award - you've all been part of it in some way.

Cheers.

Moving/Clearing out and fees

As those who came last night know, the removalists are coming next Tuesday to put our gear in storage. So we have until Monday night to get our stuff organised. Group Council is up there tonight getting group and section stuff organised, so if you can make it to start on the rover den it would be a good start. We will have to organise another time before Tuesday to get most of the gear organised, and you will all be getting messages and/or calls tomorrow to organise a date.

Also fees need to be paid by Monday. The group needs at least $120 for registration purposes, the remainder can be paid at a later date. Failure to organise payment with the group will result in deregistration, which will mean you can't be part of the crew.
At this stage there is only one crew member who has paid their fees.

Maintenance and Cheese and Ali's boot

Hi all,

A couple of things

Item the First: Considering Cheese's imminent bootage, he has passed on admin of the blog to myself and Rusty, so if you have any issues regarding the blog, please ask either of us now.

Item the Second: Extra details for the bootage this Saturday. Cheese will be there to set up from 6pm on Sat, so extra hands would be much appreciated. He has also asked for a couple of volunteers to cook food in the kitchen, so if we could sort it out amongst ourselves it would be good.

See you all on Saturday

Wednesday, 8 April 2009

You guys really need to update this more often!

If the guy who's about to be booted is the only one posting stuff, there's something wrong!

This Week

We have two options:

Option 1: Going to Eurotrash. Rusty won free tickets last week, so if you contact him, you can organise a night of hilarity on the cheap.

Option 2: Lord Casey Rover Crew's Bingo Night. It's a fundraiser for Kenya Moot, $3 entry gets you your first game, $1 for every game after. There will also be bottle rolls and a meat raffle. Probably best to talk to Cheese about this one, as he's in cahoots with one of the organisers.

I'm still undecided myself, as I also have Group Council that night. But talk to the people I've designated as 'heads' of the activities, or comment here amongst yourselves.

Joint Venturer Night on Tuesday

Hi guys,

As per the program (at least I'm pretty sure its in the program...) we have a joint night with all the district Venturer units and Rover Crews this Tuesday night.

Details are:
WHEN: Tuesday, Feb 17, 7:15- 9:00PM
WHERE: Car Park at the end of Point Ormond Av. (Mel 67 A3)

I have asked Hellsgate to bring cricket gear, I would like us to bring volleyball gear. ie. the net, a ball, and some poles to hold the net up.

Hope to see you all there.

This Week

Hi all,

There's quite a bit of rovering going on this week. Tuesday is SMRRC, and Chris will be submitting his logs for assessment, so if you can attend, it would be nice to some support for another crew member.
Wednesday is a business meeting, full uniform at the hall at 8pm

We also have an extra activity on Friday. At the programming meeting for this half of the year, the sub-committee decided to have bi-monthly activities on the Friday following the business meeting. This month is a beverage appreciation night, to be held at a crew member's house, if no one else wants to host, I will be happy to. Bring along your beverage of choice, alcoholic or not, and enough to share with other people. If people also want to bring snacks, it would also be appreciated.

Moonlight Cinema

So for February, we're planning on going into the city for moonlight cinema one night. What I want to know beforehand is which movie you want to see, so I know when to program it in. Choices are:

Wed 11th: The Day the Earth Stood Still
Wed 18th: Max Payne
Wed 25th: Godfather Part II

The 25th is also Lord Casey's bingo night to fundraise for the next world moot, which would be good to attend.

My vote is for Max Payne, Everyone else can leave theirs in the comments. I'll be making the decision at the Feb business meeting.

If you're an observant type, you may have noticed there is now a new set of links on the right hand side of the blog -->

This is because the website is now LIVE! And if you click any of those links, it will take you to the relevant page on the crew site, and you can link back to the blog from any page on the crew site. In fact, because all of the styling is the same, it looks like it's all the one site (even though it's on two completely different servers!)

Anyway, there it is. Thanks to Matt for agreeing to host the site for now.

NB. I'm still working on the history page, this should be up by this time tomorrow. Also working on the photos part using Photobucket. Consider this the "maintenance" part :)
hi all we will be going down to set up the pub and the tunnel tent tomorrow so be at the hall at 8am byo lunch if you wont

First Night of 2009

Is this Wednesday, and we're having a beach night. If you have a particular beach or activity to do you want to be at, leave a comment, and I'll send a message on Wednesday.

And next week is a business meeting, in which we shall be looking at Chris's last BP logs, so if you want to have a say, you need to be there.
